Phase 1 — Discovery (The Entry Point)

What Discovery Means

Discovery is the moment a potential customer first finds your WhatsApp number and starts a conversation. This is your first impression. It is also your first opportunity to guide the sale.

If discovery is hard, customers give up before they even say hello. If discovery is easy, they flow into your sales process naturally.

How Customers Discover Your WhatsApp

There are five main ways customers find you. Each has its own strengths.

1. Website Click-to-Chat Buttons
These are buttons on your website that open WhatsApp when clicked. They can appear on:
  • Your homepage
  • Product pages
  • Contact pages
  • Blog posts
  • Checkout pages
Best practice: Place the button where customers naturally have questions. On a product page, place it near the price. On a blog post, place it after you discuss a problem your product solves.

Pre-filled messages make this powerful.
Instead of a blank chat, the customer arrives with text already written. Example:
"Hi, I'm interested in the Premium Package. Please send me more details."
This tells you exactly what they want. It starts the conversation with purpose.

2. Social Media Bio Links
Your Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or LinkedIn bio can contain your WhatsApp link. When followers click, they enter your sales funnel directly.

Best practice: Change your bio link based on current campaigns. During a product launch, link directly to WhatsApp with a pre-filled message about that product.

3. QR Codes on Physical Materials
QR codes bridge offline and online. Customers scan with their phone camera and open WhatsApp instantly.
Where to place QR codes:
  • Business cards
  • Product packaging
  • Store windows or counters
  • Flyers and brochures
  • Receipts and invoices
  • Vehicles and uniforms
Best practice: Include a short call-to-action near the QR code. “Scan to chat with us on WhatsApp” works better than a code alone.

4. Click-to-WhatsApp Ads
These are paid advertisements on Facebook or Instagram that open WhatsApp when clicked. They combine the reach of social advertising with the intimacy of chat.

Best practice: Target ads to people who already know your brand (website visitors, email subscribers, video viewers). Warm audiences convert much better than cold strangers.

5. Referrals from Existing Customers
When happy customers share your WhatsApp number with friends, the trust is already built. Referred customers convert faster and spend more.
How to encourage referrals:
  • Ask satisfied customers directly: “Know anyone who needs this? Share our number.”
  • Create a referral program with rewards
  • Make sharing easy with saved contacts and shareable links

The Key Principle of Discovery

Make starting a conversation effortless.
Every extra click, every extra step, every extra second reduces the number of people who reach you.
Compare these two experiences:
Hard Discovery:
  1. Customer sees your product on Instagram
  2. They click your bio link
  3. It opens your website homepage
  4. They scroll to find the contact page
  5. They fill out a contact form
  6. They wait for an email response
  7. Days later, you finally exchange messages
Easy Discovery:
  1. Customer sees your product on Instagram
  2. They click your WhatsApp link in bio
  3. WhatsApp opens with a pre-filled message
  4. They hit send
  5. Your greeting message responds instantly
  6. Conversation begins immediately
The second path takes seconds. The first takes days. Which customer is more likely to buy?

Optimization Tactics for Discovery

Place WhatsApp buttons prominently on every page
Your website should have multiple entry points. Not just one hidden contact page. Put buttons:
  • In the header or navigation menu
  • Floating on the side of every page
  • At the end of the blog posts
  • On product pages near the price
  • In the footer
Use pre-filled messages
Pre-filled messages reduce customer effort and increase entry rates.
Good examples:
"Hi, I saw your and I have some questions."
"Hello, I'm interested in booking a consultation. What dates are available?"
"Hi, can you tell me more about your pricing for [service]?"

  • Create QR codes for offline-to-online conversion
Generate QR codes that open WhatsApp with pre-filled messages. Place them everywhere your physical customers interact with your brand.

  • Run click-to-WhatsApp ads
Start with small budgets targeting warm audiences. Test different ad creatives and pre-filled messages. Scale what works.
